Three legislators from Eastern Wisconsin are among the group of six state leaders that have co-authored an election reform bill.
Republican Senators Andre Jacque of De Pere and Rachel Cabral-Guevara of Appleton are joined by fellow Republican Assemblyman Shae Sortwell of Two Rivers and Joy Goben of Hobart in writing the bill, which also has bi-partisan support from Democrat Representative Sylvia Ortiz-Velez and Senator Lena Taylor, both of whom are from of Milwaukee.
Rep. Sortwell tells us that “There has been a lot of contention about elections from both sides for the last few years,” which led to a pair of election reform packages being crafted.
He went on to explain that “The bills we circulated seek to address a variety of election topics, including military absentee ballots, polling location closures, election livestreaming records, and more. The introduction of these bills is just the beginning of the conversation, with both sides working together on election reform this session.”
