Today is a day sci-fi fans around the world are celebrating, Star Wars Day.
May the 4th has been adopted by fans of the franchise as Star Wars Day due to the phrase uttered throughout the series, “May the force be with you.”
The original 1977 film was originally called simply Star Wars, but was given the tag “Episode IV: A New Hope” in 1981 following the release of “The Empire Strikes Back”, which was named Episode V right out the gate.
Director and writer George Lucas eventually was able to bring us what is now known as the prequel trilogy, which told the story of Anakin Skywalker as he drifted to the dark side and became the iconic Darth Vader.
Another fun bit of trivia comes in the characterization of Vader in the original films.
Actor Sebastian Shaw is the man in the suit, and his voice was intended to be used in the film, but James Earl Jones was later hired to lend his distinct voice to the character.
In honor of Star Wars Day, the Weill Center in Sheboygan is showing the original film tonight at 7:00 p.m.
Tickets are selling for $8 online at WeillCenter.com and at the box office located at 826 North 8th Street in Downtown Sheboygan.
