Starr Buss, a Manitowoc resident, passed away on April 29, 2023 at Aurora Medical Center, Two Rivers.
In 1953, a Starr was born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. She is the daughter of the late Don and Pearl TeWinkel. She enjoyed her positions in Loss Prevention Management with Prange’s (later becoming Younker’s) in Sheboygan WI, then for 20 more years with Shopko, covering stores in multiple cities. For ten years, she was also employed at Dell’s Cardinal Lounge, where she made people feel right at home. Starr volunteered with numerous organizations, including Self Help Inc., where she assisted inmates with their transition out of prison. She also served as an advocate with the Sexual Assault Resource Center and as a patrol volunteer with the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Department.
Starr was one of a kind. She had a passion for getting to know people and engaging in long, often late-night, conversation. She was always willing to help a friend in need, as long as it wasn’t too early. She was not a fan of mornings. She was proud and beautiful, always dressed for the occasion, typically in heels. She fought hard for what she felt was right, always taking the high road. Starr was incredibly creative. If she couldn’t find just the right thing, she would make it herself. She never settled for average. From her clothing to her home decorating, to her choice of gifts, she always tried to find that special something to make the situation just perfect. If you’ve met her, you’ve never known anyone else quite like her. She will be greatly missed.
Starr is survived by her two sons: Dr. Trevver (Laura) Buss, Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin and Tarrak Buss, Wisconsin; four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents: Don and Pearl (Eissner) TeWinkel.
Starr has always fought for justice and catching criminals. Per her wishes, her body was donated to the Forensic Anthropology Center, Knoxville, Tennessee. In this way, even in death, she can help to bring justice to families who have lost a loved one. A memorial will be held at a later date.
