A potential “suicide by cop” situation in Fond du Lac earlier this week ended without any gunfire.
A 911 call was received at around 3:15 Monday afternoon from a man saying he was armed with a pistol.
Fond du Lac Police Officers found the unidentified man walking along East Merrill Avenue near Marquette Street, and when they approached, the 23-year-old man from Oconto reportedly refused to take his hand out of his sweatshirt pocket.
He began yelling at the officers, demanding that they shoot him.
He continued to walk north on East Rees Street near a school with students still inside.
The officers were able to use sponge rounds on the man and take him into custody without further incident.
His name has not been released.
