Milwaukee and the rise in carjackings there dominated the discussion of a new carjacking statute for Wisconsin.
Recent police data from Milwaukee demonstrate that lawmakers weren’t mistaken.
Carjackings have increased by 44% so far this year, according to Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman.
Up until the end of the previous month, 108 of them occurred.
That’s a lot more than there were last year at this time—only 77.
Since many of the young individuals jailed for stealing a person’s automobile at gunpoint don’t have a criminal history, Norman believes the increase is troubling.
