The 100% season close sturgeon spearing numbers were reached yesterday in Upriver Lakes, but it came right down to the wire. With only 11 fish remaining before the goal was reached, many wondered if that number would be met yesterday, or if the lakes would be open another day. The 11th fish of the day was snagged at 1:55 PM, closing the Upriver Lakes for the season. Kyle Jenkins caught the sturgeon of the day, weighing 143.7 lbs.’ measuring an astounding 84.5”. This is a new length record, however it is not the weight record. He missed the distinction by around 70 lbs. Lake Winnebago is still open for spearing, so if you still have unfilled tags, be sure to get out there and catch yourself a monster sturgeon.
