A detached garage at a Sheboygan residence caught fire yesterday afternoon.
The Sheboygan Fire Department was informed of the blaze in the 1000 block of Bell Avenue just before 1:00 p.m.
Six total trucks were sent to the site, where a two-car garage was found fully engulfed in flames.
The blaze was under control within about 20 minutes, but the structure was deemed a total loss.
Nearby structures were damaged by the heat, as were the power, cable, and telephone lines, causing an estimated $20,000 in damage.
While the exact cause was not determined, the Sheboygan Fire Department warns residents not to use carpets or rugs on the floor of their garage.
They may absorb flammable liquids which can then cause a fire.
