At the Capitol, Governor Evers and the Democrats in the statehouse have their own abortion legislation that is not going anywhere.
A new conference was held by the governor to advocate for the reinstatement of Wisconsin’s pre-Roe abortion laws. He asserted that Wisconsinans are deserving of a debate on the topic.
However, the governor, according to the top Republican in the Wisconsin Assembly, does not want a debate or a compromise on abortion.
Instead, Speaker Robin Vos stated that he intends to “dictate” what lawmakers ought to be.
The Republican-controlled legislature will not approve the governor’s plan, just as the governor said last week that he would not sign a Republican abortion law that would have allowed exemptions for rape or incest.
