Manitowoc County Judge Mark Roher is set to issue his ruling on a lawsuit between the Cities of Manitowoc and Two Rivers and the Manitowoc Area Visitor and Convention Bureau today.
The hearing is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., where he will determine if the Cities broke state law by terminating their contract with the MAVCB.
Former Manitowoc City Councilman and current MAVCB Co-Chair John Brunner issued a statement on Facebook, where he explained that it all boils down to Room Tax dollars, which had been split between the MAVCB and the Cities of Manitowoc and Two Rivers.
He explained, “We believe that the spirit and intent of the law was quite simple. It was to prevent Cities from collecting room tax dollars and have these dollars spent on something other than tourism.”
If the suit lands in favor of the Cities, Brunner said there are appeals available to the MAVCB.
He also noted, “We certainly hope that this restores funding to this valuable organization.”
