The University of Wisconsin wants to raise tuition for the first time in nearly a decade.
Yesterday, UW President Jay Rothman told lawmakers that the school wants to raise tuition by 5% in the fall.
In 2013, Wisconsin imposed a tuition freeze on UW campuses, which was only lifted in 2021.
According to Rothman, the UW System will still be one of the Midwest’s most affordable colleges even if tuition goes up.
At UW-Madison, in-state students pay just under $11,000 per year in tuition and fees, although tuition varies by campus.
Students from other states pay nearly $40,000 per year.
