When Republicans visit Milwaukee this summer, the governor of Wisconsin is prepared to allow them to drink into the early hours of the morning.
The Republican National Convention’s bar closing time is slated for 4:00 a.m., according to Governor Tony Evers’s new state budget.
Evers made a similar request for the Democratic National Convention in 2020, so this is not an uncommon request for convention host cities.
The governor’s proposal is not just for Milwaukee.
Bars in Kenosha, Racine, Walworth, Rock, Milwaukee, Waukesha, Jefferson, Dane, Ozaukee, Washington, Dodge, Columbia, Sheboygan, and Fond du Lac—14 counties in total—would be able to stay open until 4:00 a.m. during the convention.
From July 15 to July 18, next summer, the Republican National Convention will be in Milwaukee.
