For the first time this season, Manitowoc United picked up a win on their home ice.
In game two of their weekend doubleheader, Manitowoc outscored Madison Area Co-Op 7-4 Sunday.
Madison picked up the first goal of the day after a turnover in front of Manitowoc goalie Dan Karlin snuck by his glove side 1 minute and a half into the contest.
Manitowoc would respond with a pair of sharp-angle goals, each scored by Reed Neuser a minute and a half apart.
Madison defenseman Caden Wisinski would skate end to end and shelf a shot over Karlin’s shoulder to knot it up at 2, but shortly after, Walker Lindboom would pick up a loose puck in the slot and snipe a shot top left to give Manitowoc a 3-2 lead entering the second period.
A mere 30 seconds into the second, Madison would knot it up at 3 when Sawyer Guenther would be left alone in front of Karlin, and pounded home a wide-open shot.
Then, Manitowoc went on a roll.
Myles Dekok would get a gift when Madison goalie Aiden Sweeny would misplay a puck and accidentally put it in his own net.
Ethan Christiansen would net a powerplay goal halfway through the second during a mad scramble in front of Sweeny, to give Manitowoc a 4-3 lead.
Madison would get another uncontested shot from the slot that would get by Karlin, but Dekok would work hard in the offensive zone, and pick up his second of the night.
The highlight goal of the game was undoubtedly a beautiful pass off the glass by Benson Dickrell from his defensive zone which would land right on the stick of Neuser, who would get a breakaway and make a great move and score on a wide-open net with just over a minute and 30 seconds left in the second.
Manitowoc’s defense would tighten up in the 3rd, and they would cruise to the impressive victory.
Neuser and Dickrell would pick up a total of 2 assists apiece in the win while Karlin would end the day with 25 saves and even attempted to score on an open net at the end of the game.
Manitowoc improves to 3-9-2 on the season and is back in action this Friday.
They will be at home taking on Marinette.
The puck will drop at 7:00 p.m. at the Manitowoc County Ice Center.
