A back-and-forth slugfest between the Manitowoc United and Madison Area Co-Op JV hockey teams ended in a 4-4 tie this morning (February 4th).
Madison kicked off the scoring in the first period with a rare top corner snipe of Manitowoc goalie Daniel Karlin, but Manitowoc responded three minutes later with a shorthanded goal by Walker Lindboom.
United would score again nine minutes into the second thanks to a wraparound powerplay goal by Benson Dickrell, with an assist from Reed Neuser.
Madison would knot it back up four minutes later when Caden Wisinksi would shelf a shot during a scrum in front of Karlin.
About a minute later, Ian Kelly would take a shot from the point that snuck by Karlin as he was being screened.
Manitowoc entered the final period down 3-2 but would come out and tie it a minute and a half in thanks to a beautiful shot from Neuser from the point that would ricochet off the pipe and in.
United would then take the lead with 2 minutes left as Aragon Jack would out-work the Madison defense and pound home a goal in a scrum in front of Madison netminder Aiden Sweeney.
Teddy Dhein and Myles Dekok tallied assists on the goal, but just over a minute later, Madison would net another goal off of a faceoff.
Karlin ended the game with 33 saves, while Sweeney would tally 11, including a beautiful save on a breakaway by Benson Dickrell late in the second.
Both teams are back in action tomorrow morning for game two of their weekend doubleheader at the Manitowoc County Ice Center.
The puck is scheduled to drop at 10:15 a.m.
