The Manitowoc United JV Hockey team squared off against the Fox Cities Stars Friday night at the Manitowoc County Ice Arena in a hard-fought, back-and-forth matchup that ultimately went to the visitors.
The Stars broke onto the score sheet first with a goal with just three seconds left in the first period.
Undeterred, United came out hot in the second, with Landon Nienow pounding home a goal 30 seconds into the period.
Benson Dickrell picked up an assist on the goal.
The Stars struck back five minutes later, but their 2-1 lead wouldn’t last long.
Senior Walker Lindboom snuck one in the lower corner on a pass from Dickrell on the powerplay to knot it all up entering the third.
The Stars would net another goal about halfway through the final stanza, but United kept battling.
Dickrell, Lindoom, and several other players had some good looks, but Stars goalie Logan Brownson stopped everything.
The Stars would score an empty netter to secure the 4-2 win.
Daniel Karlin was again incredible in the net, stopping 54 shots, and masterfully controlling his rebounds.
United has a week off, with their next contest scheduled for next Saturday at the Sheboygan Lakers Ice Center.
