The response from taxpayers is very loud and very clear — they don’t want to pay to park at Milwaukee County park facilities. County leaders have already put a little over one-and-a-half-million dollars in the 2018 budget, which would come from parking meters. An energized crowd at a public meeting earlier this week including yelling and chanting over a plan to charge between a dollar-50 and two-50 for parking spaces. Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele says the parking charge was put in the budget to cover a drop in state funding. Without it, other services will have to be cut.
