Stephen “Steve” E. Schreiber, age 82, a resident of Manitowoc Rapids, passed away Saturday, December 31, 2022 at his residence.
He was born January 15, 1940 on the family farm in Brillion, son of the late Edmund and Hildegarde (Geiger) Schreiber. Steve was baptized on February 18, 1940 and confirmed May 23, 1954 at St. John St. James Church in Reedsville. He attended Reedsville High School, where he was Homecoming king in 1957. Steve graduated from Reedsville High School on May 29, 1958. On July 23, 1960, Steve married Arlene E. Wendt at Christ Ev. Lutheran Church, Denmark. She preceded him in death on July 9, 2018 after almost 58 years of marriage. For many years, Steve worked on the family farm. He enjoyed spending his time shooting pool, playing dart ball, playing sheepshead, and hooking horses for horse pulls. Above all, he loved being with his family and friends. After retiring in 2001, Steve and Arlene enjoyed babysitting for great-grandchildren. He also continued to help Hackmann’s with field work. Steve was a member of Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church in the Town of Liberty.
Steve is survived by four children: Denise (Kerry) Krueger, Manitowoc, Kevin (Sheri) Schreiber, Manitowoc, Susan (Chris) Koenig, West Bend, and Kristen (Glenn) Kappelman, Newton; grandchildren: Cory (Kim) Krueger, Rachelle (Joe) Bessert, Michael (Melinda) Schreiber, Matthew (Rachael) Schreiber, Miles Schreiber, Craig (Nicole) Koenig, Samantha Koenig (significant other Cody Christopherson), and Daniel Kappelman; and many great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters: Carol (George) Krepline, Hilbert, and Judy Havel, Manitowoc; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife: Arlene Schreiber, his parents: Edmund and Hildegarde Schreiber; step-mother: Lucille Sauer-Schreiber; brothers: Stanley and William Schreiber; sisters: Delores Blashka, Patricia, Mary and Maryann Schreiber; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Erwin and Alma (Gauger) Wendt; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Harry (Janet) Wendt, Lori (Arnie) Herzog, and Dorothy Skinkis-Luebke as well as other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 6, 2023 at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, 11303 Wehausen Road, Town of Liberty, Manitowoc. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Marcus Bode. Following the service, Stephen will be laid to rest at the Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church Cemetery.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 4:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 5, 2023 at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church. The visitation will continue on Friday morning from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Friday at the church.
