Wisconsin Public Service in Green Bay sent out a list of saving energy tips during the holiday season in their most recent billing information.
WPS says, “Share the spirit of the season while managing your energy costs.”
At the top of the list is their online holiday lighting calculator.
It will help you choose the best low-energy lighting options for your displays.

Secondly, plug your indoor and outdoor lighting displays into a timer to have them on during the hours you’ll typically be awake in the evenings.
Also, cook with your microwave and slow cooker.
Your slow cooker uses up to 75% less energy than your oven, while a microwave can cook a whole meal for less than 10 cents.
Lower your thermostat.
Keeping the setting at 66 to 68 degrees can keep your guests comfortable and save 1-to-3% on heating costs for every 1 degree you lower it.
And finally, If you’re away for the holidays, turn your furnace down to 65 degrees and close blinds and curtains to retain the heat.
Put lights on timers and unplug phone chargers and small electronics.
