The WIAA Football Only Realignment Task Force met recently and came up with a wide-ranging plan that would impact a number of local and area schools.
Under the realignment proposal for the 2024-’25 school year, Manitowoc Lincoln would be in a group of conference teams including reigning state champion Kimberly, Appleton West, De Pere, Green Bay East, Hortonville, Kaukauna, and Sheboygan South.
Interestingly enough and in a bit of a head-scratcher, Sheboygan North is in a separate grouping of schools in the Fox River Area with the likes of Neenah, Fond du lac, and Bay Port.
The plan also calls for Two Rivers to move from the E-W-C to the Northeastern Conference along with Denmark, Freedom, Little Chute, Luxemburg-Casco, Sheboygan Falls, and Wrightstown.
The arrangement would have those schools play seven crossover games with the Bay Conference.
The reconstituted Eastern Wisconsin would still have Roncalli, Valders, Kiel, Brillion, New Holstein, Chilton, and the Kohler co-op along with a new member St. Mary Catholic.
Manitowoc Lutheran and Reedsville would stay in the Big East while Mishicot and Kewaunee remain in the Packerland.
The Task Force proposal has been published for schools to review and the group is expected to meet again virtually early next month to give the affected schools a chance to be heard.
A final football-only realignment plan will be forwarded to the WIAA Board of Control for a vote in March.
