Envelope containing voting ballot papers being sent by mail for absentee vote in presidential election
One Republican state lawmaker is asking a judge to make sure that military voters are actually in the military this year.
State Rep. Janel Brandtjen yesterday said she is asking the court to “verify active military status” for military ballots, and “sequester” them until they are.
Brandtjen received three military ballots in the mail last week.
A city of Milwaukee election official has been charged with creating the ballots for a fake voter, then mailing them to Brandtjen.
Military voters in Wisconsin do not have to register with a clerk, and do not have to provide any kind of voter ID in order to get a ballot.
Brandtjen said someone has to make sure their valor isn’t stolen.
