The recent controversy over failing to notify Milwaukee families about lead levels in their children has brought another issue into the public debate. Employees in the city’s health department were placed under a gag order, that was issued by former Milwaukee Health Commissioner Bevan Baker. It was lifted Thursday by Mayor Tom Barrett. Baker stepped down last month. Alderman Tony Zielinski is behind a resolution on the table which would prohibit the issuance of gag orders in any Milwaukee city department.
