Attorneys for an accused killed say evidence from his cell phone shouldn’t be admitted at his Brown County trial. George Burch is charged with murdering Nicole VanderHeyden in May 2016. Weeks after VanderHeyden’s body was found, Burch was interviewed about a hit-and-run accident. He gave Green Bay police written consent to take data from his cell phone. When Burch was connected to the VanderHeyden case, the Brown County Sheriff’s Office asked police to share the data. Burch’s attorneys say the sheriff’s department needed a warrant. Prosecutors say Burch had already given consent. The judge says he will issue a written decision next week.
