The Farm Wisconsin Discovery Center near Newton has announced they’ll be opening this summer. A news release from its board of directors and staff says their grand opening date will be Saturday July 28th. This culminates a dream of ag education friends—neighbors and visitors that began in 2009 to bring to life information about sustainable and responsible farming practices which makes in their words “Wisconsin agriculture what it is today.” Ground was broken for the $13 million facility October 11th of 2016 on a site on the intersection of I-43 and county highway C. Since then many generous supporters have contributed financially to this interactive discovery center that will feature a birthing barn where visitors can watch calves being born—a 29 thousand square-foot discovery center with educational displays and beneficial farming practices—an opportunity to tour the Grotegut (gro-the-goot) Farm—a progressive third-generation farm housed on sustainability and farming best practices—an interactive globe that will showcase population density and highlight the importance of finding a way to feed the world and a café and country store featuring Wisconsin products and an outdoor playground. Director of Education and Programming Melissa Bender says that more details will be released in the coming days. Gifts can still be made by visiting the campaign website at www.buildwaec.org
