Paul J. Dvorachek, 79, of Manitowoc, died peacefully at home early Saturday, September 10, 2022, with his wife and daughter at his side. He had been battling metastatic renal cancer since his recent diagnosis in May of 2022. Paul was born February 23, 1943 in Manitowoc, son of the late Steve and Catherine (Radey) Dvorachek. He attended Washington High School, Two Rivers, graduating with the class of 1961. He entered the United States Army in 1964, serving both at Fort Bragg, North Carolina and in Paris, France before being honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1968. On November 29, 1969, Paul married the love of his life, the former Nancy J. Greig, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Manitowoc. Paul was employed for over 28 years by the Safety-Kleen Corporation in both New Berlin, WI and Elgin, IL. He retired in 2000.
Paul enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren; reading, particularly history books and detective novels; researching his family’s history; following the Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers; playing cards and casino games; and previously relaxing at his cabin in the woods in Wautoma. He was also formerly involved in many church activities, especially at Palatine United Methodist Church, Palatine, IL, including teaching Sunday School; hosting 6:30AM Lenten Pancake breakfasts for the high school youth group; and involvement in the small group ministry.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 53 years, the Reverend Nancy; daughter, Army Lieutenant Colonel Lisa Post and son-in-law, Chris Post; and grandchildren Laura and Jack Post. He is also survived by his sisters, Adeline Svacina and Janet Dvorachek; brother, Ronald (Mary Anne) Dvorachek; brother-in-law, Ray Greig (Kathy Krueger); numerous nieces and nephews and their families; and many other relatives and friends. Paul was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Laura Dvorachek; brother, Jerome Dvorachek; and brother-in-law Kenny Svacina.
A funeral service in celebration of Paul’s life will be held at 11AM on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at Lakeshore United Methodist Church, 411 Reed Ave, Manitowoc, and also livestreamed at https://lakeshoreumc.com/, with Rev. Cherie Forret officiating. Military honors will then be accorded at the church by the Otto Oas VFW Post 659, Manitowoc, with lunch to follow the ceremony. Family will greet relatives and friends from 9:30 – 10:45AM at the church prior to the service. Cremation has taken place at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel, with burial of remains to take place at a later date at Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Manitowoc.
