Brewers pitchers held San Francisco to seven hits in Thursday’s doubleheader, sweeping the visitors 2-1 and 4-2.
Starter Corbin Burnes pitched like the Cy Young Award winner he is in the first game, shutting down the Giants on three hits over eight innings and giving up just a single run.
When second-game starter Freddy Peralta left the mound after two innings the Brewers used five pitchers to hold the lead they grabbed with a three-run rally in the first.
The wins moved Milwaukee within two-and-a-half games of Philadelphia for the final Wild Card spot.
Rookie Jason Alexander is scheduled to start tonight (September 9th) in the first game of a three-game weekend home series against the Reds.
Also, the Brewers blame “fatigue in his throwing shoulder” for Freddy Peralta’s third-inning exit against San Francisco.
Peralta has been placed on the injured list.
The 2021 National League All-Star pitcher spent more than two months on the sidelines this season with a right lat strain.
He returned to action August 3rd. It isn’t known if the talented 26-year-old will pitch again this season with 24 games and – hopefully – the postseason to go.
