The Republican candidate for Dane County Sheriff has filed a federal lawsuit against the office.
Anthony Hamilton alleges he was the victim of retaliation by Sheriff Kalvin Barrett and other department officials after he tried to expose details of an illegal search conducted last year.
Barrett is running for the office as a Democrat.
Hamilton says he was part of a tactical response team investigating a weapons violation at a Madison hotel last year.
He says the team searched several rooms without securing a warrant.
Hamilton had made other accusations aimed at Barrett as he runs for office.
