As the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers enter the final week of the regular reason today, they will be honoring one of the biggest names to come through the program, David Ortiz.
The man affectionately known as Big Pappi spent one season with the Brewers’ High A Affiliate in 1996, which was at the time affiliated with the Seattle Mariners.
He accumulated 156 hits and 18 home runs that season, but the biggest highlight came when he squared off with Alex Rodriguez and Ken Griffey Jr. in a home run derby.
Ortiz dominated and showed the kind of star power he would bring to the Boston Reds Sox later in his career.
In honor of Oritz being inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame, they will be giving a replica David Ortiz Hall of Fame Plaque to the first 1000 fans to enter Fox Cities Stadium for the first game of a six-game series with the Beloit Sky Carp.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m.
