Two of the three people in charge of Milwaukee’s Violence Prevention Fund say they didn’t know it existed.
Mayor Cavalier Johnson says he “had no clue.”
Hundreds of thousands of dollars from the fund have been given away over the last few years in hopes of stopping violence.
It was formed in 2017 when then-Mayor Tom Barrett and others set up the fund at the Greater Milwaukee Foundation.
There is good news.
Milwaukee Health Commissioner Kirsten Johnson says it seems that “most of the money has gone to community organizations, appropriately.”
