
Waukesha County Circuit Judge Paul Bugenhagen told the defendant Monday he “committed one of the most depraved, dangerous, ruthless, awful offenses that one could imagine” – then sentenced him to 80 years in prison.
A jury had found 25-year-old Nathanael Benton guilty of attempted first-degree intentional homicide for shooting two police officers in Delafield.
Benton was on the run from an attempted murder charge in North Dakota in November 2020.
The officers survived.
Benton will receive credit for the 433 days in custody he has already served.
