A Milwaukee County judge agrees with the jury, sending a 41-year-old man to prison. The jury ruled Daniel Popp was mentally ill when he killed three neighbors, but he could have stopped himself. Popp faces a mandatory three life sentences for shooting Phia and Mai Vue, and Jesus Manso-Perez to death in spring 2016. Popp could have been institutionalized at a mental hospital, but Friday’s decision by Circuit Court Judge Jeffrey Conen means he could spend the rest of his life in prison. The judge will decide whether he will be eligible for parole at a future date.
