One of the most unique changes the MLB has made in recent years was the addition of an annual Field of Dreams game, where they construct a ball diamond in a rural corn field.
While the game itself is a spectacle to behold, an area baseball team was able to experience it in a completely different way.
34 players from De Pere Youth Baseball participated in a tournament on the diamond created in Dyersville Iowa.
Since some of the players maybe wouldn’t know what the field is referencing, they were shown the 1989 baseball classic Field of Dreams before they made the trip, which the players said made the trip that much more special.
The kids even recreated the iconic scene where the legendary players emerge from the corn field, and even played a game of catch with their fathers on the field, just like Kevin Costner did in the film.
In the main event yesterday, the Chicago Cubs beat the Cincinnati Reds 4-2.
A hologram of the iconic Cubs radio announcer Harry Caray even made an appearance to lead the crowd in a rendition of Take me Out to the Ball Game.
