
The Manitowoc County Mariners used a big second half to pull away and defeat the Wisconsin Ravens 36-6 Saturday in the opening round of the Northern Lights Football League Playoffs.
After a sluggish start to the game at Rubick Municipal Field, Head Coach Brent Luebke’s ballclub scored 30 second-half points to post the victory.
Runningback Adrian Abeyta rushed 18 times for 144 yards and two touchdowns, while through the air, quarterback Marcos Alfaro II completed 13 of 20 passes for 257 yards and two scores.
Wide receiver Austin Isley had 5 catches for 180-yards, including a 55 touchdown grab.
Defensively, Coach Rick Roulette’s unit forced the Ravens’ quarterback into 3 interceptions by Brysen Roulette, Steven Wells, and Lance Billings the II.
The #3 Mariners now host the 7th seeded Kenosha Cougars in the league semifinals this Saturday night, August 13th in a 6:00 p.m. start at Rubick Field.
The Cougars upset the 2-seed, Brown County Blackjacks, 26-14.
Saturday’s winner moves on to the league championship game on August 20th.
