Green County Sheriff Jeff Skatrud says it’s a staffing issue.
He has had to transfer half of the county jail’s female inmates to other counties – and release the rest on electronic monitoring.
Skatrud says his county is currently unable to house any women.
The sheriff says he expects the situation to remain the same for several months.
He blames a lack of female staff members and the design of the aging jail facility.
His office is working to hire more deputies but the training period lasts four to five months.
