A Tuesday vote by the Nashville City Council means the 2024 Republican National Convention will almost certainly be held in Milwaukee.
Council members voted down a draft agreement to host the convention, 22-to-10.
The Republicans’ site selection committee has already recommended Milwaukee by a unanimous vote held last month.
A final decision is expected Friday during a Chicago meeting.
Nashville leaders cited security risks associated with hosting such a big event but Tennessee Republicans say it was a political decision because the council is headed by progressive politicians.
