Library Board President Chris Able welcomes Karin Adams as the new Director of the Manitowoc Public Library.
Monday afternoon the Manitowoc Library Board met in a special session to consider the approval for hiring a new Library Director.
After an eleven-minute closed session, the board reconvened and voted unanimously to approve Karin Adams to the position of Director of the Manitowoc Public Library.
Adams comes from the Marinette County library system and said it was the people that drew her to apply for this opportunity.
“I was drawn to the foundation that the staff has here,” she said. “They are all very committed and [they] always have a very welcoming atmosphere when I have come and visited. So, it was a place I was drawn to just by the environment.”
Adams knows that the Manitowoc Public library system has been without a Director for just over a year, but told Seehafer News that she looks forward to the challenge.
“If anything, the last couple of years really established Libraries as super relevant today,” she expalined. “Sometimes that becomes a question for some people but, it’s a place for education, it’s a place for entertainment, it’s a resource when you need it and even when you didn’t know you needed it, it’s always there.”
Adams will start her new job on September 19th.
