EAA Air Venture in Oshkosh, known as The World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration, winds down this weekend.
Dick Knapinski, Director of Communications for the EAA, told Seehafer News this year’s EAA has been celebrating a milestone.
“The Air Force is celebrating their 75th anniversary this year,” he explained. “There are only two or three civilian air shows in the entire country they are throwing their full support behind, and EAA Air Venture is one of them.”
Pilots have been thrilling visitors during the popular Night Air Shows this week, and the Night Air Show finale will be this Saturday Night from 8:00-10:00 p.m. and end with a dazzling fireworks display.
Knapinski said a number of the popular air-craft seen in the movies will continue to amaze the spectators again this weekend.
“This year we are going to have some of the aggressor aircraft. Those are the bad guys at Top Gun school,” he revealed. “We will have some of the pilots who are Top Gun graduates here as well, and we may have some special surprises coming your way.”
With the long-awaited Top Gun movie sequel being released Knapinski said more and more people are becoming aviation enthusiasts and asking more questions at the air show.
He pointed out if you think what happened in the movie doesn’t happen in real life, think again. Knapinksi explained that the creators of Top Gun actually worked hand in hand with the military to ensure the film was as real-life accurate as possible.
“With the Navy there, they are not going to let the movie get out of control,” he said. “You have to remember there are actually people who do that at Top Gun school. Those pilots train for that, and become a part of that, and are on the front line of our national defenses.”
The air show will wrap up this Sunday.
