The Manitowoc County Health Department is looking to remind everyone of the importance of being vaccinated.
Stephanie Lambert, the County Health Officer, told Seehafer News that August is National Immunization Awareness Month.
This annual observance highlights the importance of getting recommended vaccines throughout your life.
Routine vaccination catch-up is especially important now, as some people have fallen behind on their immunizations in recent years.
Lambert said that as of now, roughly 10% of school-age children in Manitowoc County do not have the immunizations necessary to attend school.
This gap in immune coverage creates an opportunity for diseases like measles, whooping cough, and polio to make a comeback.
In an attempt to fix this trend, the Health Department will be hosting vaccination clinics every Monday starting August 1st.
You are encouraged to call the Health Department at (920) 683-4155 to schedule your child’s appointment or to learn more about the recommended vaccine schedule.
