A southern Door County farm was able to save all 50 of their cattle that were in a barn that caught fire Wednesday evening (July 27th).
The Southern Door Fire Department was informed of the blaze at Meier Farms, located southwest of Sturgeon Bay, at around 5:30 p.m.
They arrived to find the cattle still inside the barn as a pile of hay was smoldering.
All of the cattle were safely evacuated while crews began addressing the fire. Crews from several fire departments assisted on the scene throughout the evening.
The structure and farm equipment was saved, and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire was listed as the spontaneous combustion of hay, which can happen in hot, dry weather.
