
In semi-pro football, the Manitowoc County Mariners defeated the Wisconsin Ravens 51 to 6 Saturday in a game shortened by lightning at Ron Rubick Municipal Athletic Field.
With a win in the regular season finale, the Mariners qualify for the Northern Lights Football League playoffs.
Coach Brent Luebke’s team displayed a strong offensive and defensive attack in improving their record to 8 and 2.
Quarterback Marcos Alfaro the 2nd completed 14 of 17 passes for 201 yards while Adrian Abeyta rushed 12 times for 100 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Linebacker Michael Quinchia led the defense by scoring a touchdown on a fumble recovery in the endzone.
Quinchia along with cornerback Lance Billings the 2nd and defensive lineman Damien Bullock each intercepted the Ravens quarterback.
Next up, the Mariners will host the Wisconsin Ravens in a first-round playoff game on Saturday, August 6th at a time and place to be determined in the very near future.
