Two Rivers’ Snowfest returns this weekend for a 3-day run.
Tony Sachse from the Friends of Two Rivers Snowfest tells Seehafer News about the unique origin of the event.
“It started back in 1936, July 9th to be exact,” he explained. “The WPA at that time was digging over on the southside of Two Rivers when they came upon a pile of snow about 4 feet underground, perfectly preserved in the middle of summer.”
Sachse explains that the first festival in the Cool City was in 1937 to celebrate the finding of snow in July.
Year two of the Snowfest revival will feature more snow, thanks to a little bit of Hollywood.
“I happen to have on pretty good authority that there’s going to be more snow and some really kind of cool effects associated with it this year,” Sachse revealed. “We have a friend of ours that’s going to be coming in, helping us with the snow. There may actually be some snowing going on down at Neshotah Park as well. He’s a Hollywood special effects artist so he’s going to make it snow in some places too.”
Snowfest includes a parade on Saturday, along with a carnival, kid’s area, vendor fair, and 12 bands at Nashotah Park.
Sachse calls it “a quintessential Wisconsin party”, adding it’s just a reason to have some fun.
