The Manitowoc area is currently in the midst of the hottest stretch of weather we have had all summer, and with that comes the risk for heat-related injuries.
We spoke with Manitowoc County Emergency Services Director Travis Waack who had some suggestions for those who have to work outside in the muggy hot weather.
“Make sure you are giving yourself plenty of rest breaks in the shade, and maybe finding some air conditioning once and a while,” he said. “Obviously staying hydrated with water is key. Not soda, not alcohol, water. And making sure you are giving yourself some extra breaks so you don’t have any heat exhaustion or heat stroke type issues.”
While we may not be at a critical level of hot, much like they are in Europe, it is still important to keep yourself safe.
If you plan on going to a local beach, it is suggested that you wear sunscreen to help protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays.
