A new jail will be built in Kewaunee County.
The County Board approved the project plan for the construction of a $25.6 million facility, which will take the current jail out of commission.
The Kewaunee County Jail is currently the oldest, and smallest jail of its type in the state, making this decision a relative no-brainer.
The Board agreed, passing the measure 19-1.
The new 40,000 square foot facility will have room for 52 beds, the ability to expand to up to 85 beds, and will house the 911 call center.
The County will start taking bids for the project next spring, with construction set to begin next fall.
