Back in October, we reported about the requirement for all phone calls, including local ones, to utilize the full 10-digit format.
This weekend, the reason that was implemented comes to fruition.
The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is launching its short-form number tomorrow (July 16th) to make it easier for those struggling with mental health problems to get immediate help.
The number is 988 and joins the more well-known short form numbers like 911 and 511.
The number was created in 2020, but could not be implemented nationwide until all areas used the 10-digit format.
There are other ways to get help if you do not want to call.
