It was a chance to expand their National League Central Division lead.
The Milwaukee Brewers played a pair of sub-500 teams last week in the Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates but dropped four of six games to the division rivals.
The Brewers took Monday off, and start a short two-game road series at Minnesota tonight (July 12th).
Rookie Jason Alexander starts the 7:40 p.m. game at Target Field.
Even though the second-place Cardinals have had some struggles of their own recently, they are only two games behind Milwaukee as the All-Star break approaches.
