Over the last two days, we have been reporting on a movie that was shot partially in Manitowoc called Through Eyes of Grace.
The film is based on the book of the same name, which was written by Sheboygan resident Dave Payton, and one of the actors, Kurt Krauss got his start in Manitowoc.
Now we are going to hear from another actor in the movie, Amanda Kristen Cox.
She plays Evalyn, who is the wife of Pastor Seth Adams.
The couple’s daughter disappears in the story, which takes a look at why bad things happen to good people.
Amanda told us that the crew has been amazing.
“They were all complete strangers before I got here,” she told Seehafer News. “They have created a space where I feel really safe to be able to create and go into those really vulnerable places I have to go to be this kind of terrified mother who doesn’t know what’s going on.”
Getting into that frame of mind can be difficult, but for Amanda, she has an advantage.
“I have a teenage daughter myself, so its really easy for me to picture, but I try not to picture too much,” she said with a laugh.
Much like her co-star Kurt, Amanda has been a stage actor for most of her career but has made a few minor appearances on TV shows.
We asked her what that transition is like.
“I’ve actually spent the last two years doing coaching and trainings, making sure I know how to make the acting so much more subtle and nuanced,” she explained. “It’s really just a question of being a real person in a real situation…You don’t have to raise your voice, you don’t have to emote for grandma in the back row, you just stand there and do the thing. It’s really really fun.”
Amanda is a New York native, but she told us she has had a blast filming in Manitowoc, Sheboygan, and Belgium.
“It’s absolutely gorgeous,” she said. “Having Lake Michigan right there, we have taken lots of walks down to the lake, and we have explored going to lighthouses and things. It’s been really wonderful. I love it here.”
