A child in Allouez reportedly accidentally started a garage on fire yesterday morning.
The Green Bay Metro Fire Department reports that they were called to the 600 block of East Mission Road at around 9:45 a.m. where they identified a garage containing what they termed “heavy fire”.
The flames had also spread to the living quarters of a nearby residence and took about half an hour to get under control.
The residents had already evacuated by the time crews arrived, but one person was treated for a minor injury at the scene.
Four adults, three children, and a dog were all displaced.
The cause was listed as careless use of a lighter by a juvenile, which the Fire Department says is a major concern.
They stated that a dozen fires start in Green Bay each year due to children improperly using lighters, matches, or smoking materials.
