About 25 interested local residents attended last night’s City of Manitowoc Public Visioning Workshop held at the Yacht Club.
The interactive workshop, which was broken up into 8 small groups to identify community assets, opportunities, and challenges, is part of the 20-year Comprehensive Plan Update process.
Seehafer News spoke prior to the event with Manitowoc Community Development Director Adam Tegen who explained, “The goal of it is to check in with people. It’s been since 2009 when we last did this on a city-wide basis. It’s kind of what have we done right since 2009 and what have we done wrong.”
He went on to say the other aspect of the workshop was to figure out where residents want the city to go from here.
Or as he put it “The comprehensive plan is ‘What do you want to be when you grow up?’”
Tegen also told us what the next step in the process will be.
“After this, we will be launching an online interactive version of basically what is happening tonight as a workshop,” he said. “We will hopefully keep that open for a couple of months. While that is open, the consultants are continuing to do data gathering, and then they will begin to craft a draft of the update to the plan.”
Three representatives of the city’s comprehensive plan consultant, Vandewalle and Associates of Madison, led the workshop and they indicated the goal is to have a draft of the plan in place this fall.
Then, the report will go to the Manitowoc Plan Commission in October and eventually be presented at a public hearing by January 2023.
