One of the early musical performers on WOMT Radio has died at the age of 95 in northeast Wisconsin.
We received word this week of the death of Veronica Ann Vertz of Sturgeon Bay.
The former Veronica Buynoski was born in Two Rivers in 1927, the year after WOMT went on the air in its’ Manitowoc Washington Street studio above the Mikadow Theatre.
As a professional musician for most of her life, one of Veronica’s first positions involved working for the radio station where she had her own program called “Round Up Time.”
Later in her life, Vertz played piano and accordion with many local bands before forming her own trio that also included Bill Fredrickson on sax and clarinet and Jerry Mickelson on drums.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon (June 30th) at 1:00 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay with burial in the church cemetery.
