Wisconsin’s governor has directed Attorney General Josh Kaul to challenge the state’s 1849 abortion law.
The 173-year-old ban was triggered last week when the U-S Supreme Court overturned the Roe-V-Wade decision.
Governor Tony Evers announced the legal action in Milwaukee Tuesday.
Kaul has said he will make two arguments in an effort to block the 19th-Century law.
He will argue the state passed a series of laws to regulate legal abortions that are inconsistent with the ban.
Also, laws can be declared obsolete when they have been used for decades.
