Governor Tony Evers was in Manitowoc County this morning with a major announcement.
While addressing a room full of local dignitaries, as well ast students and staff, Governor Evers said, “We are glad to be here in Cleveland to announce that Lakeshore Technical College will be receiving up to $1.7 million in grants for the Lakeshore Industries 4.0 Pathways and Upscaling project.”
Those funds are a part of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation and Department of Workforce Development’s join Workforce Innovation Grant program.
Evers was joined at the podium by WEDC Secretary and CEO Missy Hughes, DWD Secretary-designee Amy Pachacek, and Lakeshore Technical College President Paul Carlson, who explained “We will be purchasing and outfitting an advanced mobile manufacturing lab to train folks on robotics and automation.”
He went on to say, “We are going to take this mobile lab, and we are going to travel all through our district to reach traditionally underserved populations to get them excited about manufacturing and to get them the skills they need to find meaningful, high wage, high demand employment in manufacturing.”
As for what drew the Governor’s Office and the other organizations to this project, Governor Evers explained, “LTC does a great job of bringing people together, not only on the board level but on the implementation level.”
And that is shown in the partners LTC has already brought on board with this project.
They include Ameriquip, American Orthodontics, The Bay Area Workforce Development Board, the Bay Lake Regional Planning Commission, Great Lakes Training and Development, Haiden, Hope House, Lakeside Foods, Lighthouse Recovery, McKinley Academy within the Manitowoc Public School District, the N.E.W. Manufacturing Alliance, N.E.W. North, the Sheboygan County Chamber, United Way of Manitowoc County, and the Valders School District.
