A man known as “Mr. Baseball” in Two Rivers will be honored posthumously this Saturday by the Shoreland Baseball League.
A Hall of Fame induction ceremony is taking place at 3:30 p.m. Saturday for Howie Timm at Walsh Field as part of the 50th-anniversary celebration.
AJ Lorrigan, the co-president of the league, tells Seehafer News that he was only 2 years old when Timm passed away in 1989.
“Having seen his statue here, I knew the name,” he explained. “I didn’t know too much about him, but I have had the chance to speak with his children and people he has worked with, and it seems like he is very important to baseball, sports, and the community of Two Rivers.”
Howie spent almost 40 years associated with the Shoreland League as a player and manager, during which he won four league titles with the Polar Bears.
Lorrigan says, “Everyone who has played for him has said that he is an amazing man to play for, and an amazing man to learn from.”
A large contingent of Howie Timm’s family members are expected to be on hand for the Hall of Fame program on Saturday afternoon.
No admission will be charged throughout the day and concessions will be available. There will be a gift basket raffle to help cover costs.
As reported earlier, there’s going to be a Shoreland League Alumni Reunion Saturday at 11:00 a.m., an Alumni Softball Game at 2:00 p.m., and a Shoreland Legends vs. Rising Stars Game at 5:00 p.m.
